After Artomatic419, I decided that I needed to pick up the sketchbook again. The pieces I had done for the blank project and then Artomatic made me realize I do not draw anymore. Being a web designer for the past 10 years has really removed me from my roots as an artist. I know there is no real excuse there. I used to draw everyday. So what happened? My guess goes way back to my early design school days and being introduced to the Mac and Photoshop. Now I came from a small town and didn’t really have access to a computer, especially one that I was able to do artwork on, so this was a huge step. So imagine this new tool set before me. I can draw on this, manipulate photos, layer typography and all very quickly? It was at that moment that I knew I was heading in the right direction for my college career. Design quickly became my focus and my passion for traditional art that I had been used to, was quickly becoming old hat. But these days as I sit here typing this I am longing for the days of 3 hour sessions in print making and life drawing class. But inevitable as it may be, I will never stray from the technology put before me.

So is there a middle ground? I think so. So over the past couple months I have been drawing, making brushes, scanning, manipulating in hopes to come out with something tangible from this experiment. Below is the start of this experiment and in the future can be tracked at my other site.

Stoked. Can’t wait to see more. I suppose its natural to find oneself after so many years of pixel pushing, rediscovering a passion for tangible physical interaction with ones creative output. This evolution of media never stops for us “creatives”. I think back on my college art days and miss the other mediums that fueled who I was as an artist. The lines were so clearly drawn from one major/medium at the time. I never identified with that. I knew it was me, my medium, and what I could bring to the table that was a real testing ground for my creativity. That has never changed to this day.

you know how I feel about this subject so I need not go into great lengths and detail about the subject matter. Although I will say this, nothing beats a pen and pencil.
